Custom Designed IP-1 Shipping Containers

MSDF offers our customers direct from the manufacturer purchasing of a variety of stock and custom DOT hazardous material shipping containers. We generally keep in inventory both IP-1 90 and 45 cubic foot boxes for our quick ship program, and offer reduced pricing for truckload quantities. We serve a variety of DOE customers and such customers as Bechtel Jacobs, Los Alamos National Labs, Areva, NASA, and Entergy.

We have also designed and certified over 25 IP-1 and 7A Type A DOT certified designs for hazardous material handling containers for the nuclear power and power generation industry. Used for decommissioning materials, power plant maintenance outages, and shipping of custom sized equipment, our containers range from 2'x 2' x 2' up to 10' x 10' x 24' steel shipping packages. We have been a valuable supplier for this industry offering a complete line of Nevada Test Site NTS compliant hazardous waste shipping and disposal containers.

Metal Solutions Design & Fabrication, LLC also offers container design, engineering for custom shipping needs. We are able to add enhancements and features to the containers at the time of manufacture, and we provide certificates of conformance on all of our products. Manufactured under our NQA-1 Quality Assurance Program, you can be confident that the product that you are purchasing will meet the regulations necessary for shipping and disposal. Our specialty containers offer a variety of structural enhancement options dependant on the type materials that will be handled including solid waste, liquids and grout type applications.

Design and Build Projects:

The container below was a custom project designed to transport the OS 200 and OS 197 Casks for storage. Design considerations for multiple uses and road and or rail transportation all played into the final design that carries the 120,000 lb. loaded cask. MSDF also designed and built the support containers for the lifting yokes used to load these casks.

Our staff includes 2 Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI) and has over 23 years of experience in design, fabrication, and container testing. Our welders and welding processes comply with the requirements of AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.3 and ASME Section IX. Our Quality Assurance Program is ASME NQA-l compliant. Our modern, well-managed Manufacturing facility enables us to meet very short delivery schedules. All of MSDF’s, DOT shipping containers are of high quality, and comply with 49 CFR 173.
